Introducing TENCEL™ Lyocell
TENCELTM Lyocell
TENCEL™ lyocell is a fabric made from sustainably sourced eucalyptus.
The fibres are produced from the pulp of eucalyptus wood and made from sustainably sourced timber which is FSC & PEFC certified.
TENCEL™ lyocell is considered one of the world's most sustainable fabrics. It is more eco-friendly than cotton and bamboo and far surpasses the standards of comfort for sheets.
Production
Unlike other cellulosic fibres, the TENCEL™ supply chain is transparent.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are generated from eucalyptus trees grown on farms / artificial forests that steer clear of genetic modification and toxic chemical fertilisation. This practice means that no natural forests are harmed in the cultivation of these eucalyptus trees.
The production of TENCEL™ has earned the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certification, confirming that Oh Sheet products come from socially and environmentally responsible sources.
The process of turning eucalyptus wood into fibres is a closed-loop system. Eucalyptus wood chips are processed in a pulp mill powered by renewable energy, using water and nontoxic organic solvents with a recovery rate of up to > 99% of organic solvents. The tiny remaining amount is then decomposed sustainably.
Due to the nature of the material, there is no bleach or harmful chemicals involved in the process either. This practice has won the "European Award for the Environment" from the European Commission for its high efficiency and low impact.
Why TENCELTM
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres have unique physical properties that lead to their incredible strength, efficient moisture absorption and gentleness to the skin.
Other benefits of the material include:
- Better breathability
- Higher absorbency
- More softness
- Better moisture management
- Creates unfavourable conditions for bacteria growth
All in all, the fibre allows for the production of bedsheets that are perfect for people with sensitivities of any kind.
Why TENCELTM from Lenzing
Even though TENCEL™ is a registered brand name from Lenzing, many mills produce fabrics using the same name. However, not all TENCEL™ are created equally.
When buying eucalyptus sheets, it's essential to look for TENCEL™ certified sheets as this guarantees high-quality, durable sheets that will last a lifetime.
Think of it as an investment in a lifetime of good sleep.
