Sustainability

TENCEL™ Lyocell is one of the best sustainable bedding materials today.

For less than 1/10 of the water it takes to grow cotton, TENCEL™ fields yield 10x more eucalyptus per acre.

The fabric is also milled with high eco-standards and created in a closed-loop system that helps to minimise waste. For context, the whole production process runs entirely on renewable energy with organic solvents with a recovery rate of > 99%.

And finally, it saves up to 60% water and energy compared to other conventional fabrics.

Sustainability Certifications

USDA-certified bio-based product

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed sources, a renewable resource. They have earned the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred® designation.

Biodegradable / Compostable

All standard TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres types have been certified by TÜV Austria Belgium NV as biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil and marine conditions. Thus they can fully revert to nature.

EU Ecolabel

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are certified with the internationally recognised EU Ecolabel - an environmental quality label only awarded to products and services which have a significantly lower environmental impact throughout their entire lifecycle. Products awarded the label are independently assessed for compliance with strict ecological and performance criteria.

FSC® and PEFC™

Lenzing relies on responsible forestry. FSC® Forest Stewardship Council (FSC-C041246) and PEFC™ Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC/06-33-92) certifications confirm that most of the wood used to make TencelTM lyocell fibres is derived from sustainable sources.

European Award for the Environment

The closed-loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact, received the European Award for the Environment from the European Commission in the category “The Technology Award for Sustainable Development”.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100

This worldwide standard ensures that about 1,000 chemicals are either not used at all or that the residues are within very tight limits in textile production.

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety.
